Alpine Lake Larches

Golden larches lean over a turquoise alpine lake at first light.

Larch is one of the few conifers that turns colour and drops its needles every autumn, which is why the trees along this shoreline glow gold for a few weeks before going bare. The lake's colour comes from fine rock flour suspended in glacial meltwater, scattering light into that milky turquoise.
